Quick and Dirty notes on
Both games, what Ive found myself and maybe a fix or 2
..
Being a tight bastard I dont
like to spend any-more money than I have to on games, and I still like playing BF2 and Wet, also playing with the
dedicated server versions of both, which Involves tweaking and tuning
...helps keep me amused.
- BF2 and wolf:et are sharing the same machine - a
small dell workstation 3.2gb cpu 1g ram
- BF2 Especially loves ram - 2 or more
g's of ram would be better for the ded' server
- Both Ded' servers are straight setup
on linux which I run in a home directory in screen
- both games running on the same
machine is never ideal inless say your running vmware with a lan output
for each maybe [my opinion anyway], depends how many players you have
on a day to day basis, in my case its all experimental.
- mod's to bf2: modmanager
scripts, bf2statistics.com scripts for stats and "naw5" mod, all are
drop in and configure, so theres not a big deal there really, all is
needed extra is a web server with php, but with either linux or windows
thats not an issue normally.
- WOLF:ET standard install
patched to 2.60b, I did notice that a lot of hosting providers still
use the 2.55 version why I dont know yet, one day ill bother to find
out the reason
- MODS: for wolf:et are "nitmod
2.0b7" and "omnibot 0.8", and I work on the American ideal in this case
with updates; "if it aint broke dont fix it" so since the nitmod
version and omnibot work ok, I wont bother to update.
- all I'm doing now is tweaking
the server.cfg file which has a lot of cvars [or settings] some of
which are explained and some are not.
FIX'S AND FILES
- If
you play Wolfenstein ET and have a server going, and wonder why the
server uses a crap load of bandwidth even though there are no players
on the server; this is an inherent fault in the server prog itself. Now
there is a fix from a czech guy, [quick and dirty as he sayes], on
splash damages forum [its in the form of another patch, small and easy
to load], it does work, cause I used it. Go HERE
for answers and a fix. For any reason if the link for that file is down
or gone, the fix file is archived on my own setup HERE.
- Also
if your into PHP and web servers and want a status / player script for
your bling ... bling wolf:et server , I found this script while
trawling the internet HERE.
- Both scripts are complete and
untouched, as written by their owners. ***NOTE: BANDWIDTH FIX is for linux server patched to 2.60b ONLY, no fix for windows [as far as I know]
